Po s t - R a c i a l Short Film Festival FRIDAY FEBRUARY 12th at 8:00 pm SubRosa infoshop, 703 Pacific Ave Downtown Santa Cruz Now that we're all post-racial and shit, let's bust out the bubbly and celebrate!!! It's been a year since racism ended in America and it's time to take stock of our history and take a deeper look at our shiny new post-racial nation. This will be an evening of short films and discussion hosted by the anti-racist group Being John Brown. Themes will include everything from how to call out your local racist to hip hop, hair, the white power movement, baby dolls, what solidarity can look like, blaxploitation, and of course, the resulting racial tension headaches!
BEING JOHN BROWN is a group of activists committed to challenging and actively confronting white supremacy, including lampooning the absurd notion of an extant "Post-Racial" America with actual fact. SANTA CRUZ GUERILLA DRIVE-IN is an outdoor movie theater under the stars that springs up in the fields and industrial wastelands. But tonight it's gonna be indoors. Beyond showing great movies and bringing a broad community together, part of our mission is helping reclaim public space and transforming our urban environment: www.guerilladrivein.org |

BREAKING NEWS, updated summer schedule, discussion, do-it-yourself, email list, the works at
GDI Community Brainstorm
During the intermission for Minority Report, we had a brainstorm on
alternatives to police and law enforcement for solving community
problems. This is the list that came out of this discussion.
Possible Community Solutions to Challenging Behaviors
* Person assigned to be present with person having hard time
* Direct communication / dialog
* Don't call police / no punitive solutions
* Communicate with neighbors
* Mutual support
* Provide solutions / skills / education
* Crisis response team (Anarchist 911)
* Support positive youth culture / youth spaces
* Dialog with gangs / groups / neighbors
* Free enrichment activities - recreation, sports
* Mental health support
* Writing/art programs
* Free skools / sharing skills & education
* Communities of parents, groups, youth
Now this is just a brainstorm of course, and still all just talk. But
we have the opportunity to create in our lives through our actions and
projects the kind of world we want to see.

MINORITY REPORT Friday December 18 8pm @ Subrosa
Santa Cruz Guerilla Drive-In presents
Recently, there have been some high profile incidents of violence in Santa Cruz. Concerned citizens have rallied around the cause of "Take Back Santa Cruz", calling for increased surveillance of public places and tougher policing to "rid the town of undesirables." This Steve Spielberg thriller, based on the short story by Philip K. Dick, reminds us of the dangers of inviting an all-seeing government to monitor every action of our lives and of the risks of arresting people for a crime they have yet to commit.
This screening will include a post-film discussion of local issues and possible approaches.
In the year 2054, in Washington, D.C., murder has been eliminated thanks to Pre-crime, a program that uses the visions of three psychics to arrest and imprison would-be murderers before they have a chance to kill. When a Pre-crime enforcer finds himself accused of the future murder of a man he's never met, his faith in Pre-crime is instantly shaken.
Plus thrilling and funny short films, an intermission, great company and a guaranteed good time!
Bring anything you need to be comfortable, friends, snacks to share. Donations to support the project are more than welcome.

Benefit Screening Of A Local Feature Film! Sun Dec 13th
Dear Guerilla Drive-In Supporters, I am excited to announce a screening of a local film. This is not a Guerilla Drive-In event at one of our guerilla locations, but it is a film that was written, directed and produced by a local Santa Cruz filmmaker. It stars Santa Cruzians; it was filmed in Santa Cruz, and it was edited by my wonderful brother-in-love (aka brother-in-law). It is a film I am excited about, and I wanted to share it with you all! --Stacey Join Us For A Benefit Screening Of A Local Feature Film! The Jesus Factor, written and directed by local award winning filmmaker Cheri Lovedog, (Prey for Rock and Roll, Hollywood Trash and Tinsel), will be showing one evening only at the Rio Theater, located at 1205 Soquel Ave. Santa Cruz, CA, Sunday, December 13 at 6:30pm. The Jesus Factor takes an unconventional, and often times humorous, look at family, sex, gender, religion, and love etiquette…or lack thereof. Johnny, disowned by his born again Christian family due to his choices in life, love, wardrobe and accessories, left Fresno and built himself a good life in Santa Cruz. With a job he loves, good friends, good music, good herb and the support of a devoted girlfriend, he has become the man he was destined to be. When his sister calls and leaves a brief phone message telling him their mother died, Johnny, against the wishes of his girlfriend, decides they will attend the funeral. Uninvited, they brave Fresno and the Bible in one last attempt to inspire his sister to Love Thy Brother. Advance tickets are $6.00 and available for purchase at Lovedog Tattoo Studio, 1115 Soquel Ave. Santa Cruz, or on-line at Brown Paper Tickets. Night of event tickets: $8.00 at door. Student's with ID $5.00 in advance or at door. No one turned away for lack of funds! Bring your Friends! For more information on this event please visit www.jesusfactormovie.com |
