It's been a year since racism ended in America and it's time to take stock of our history and take a deeper look at our shiny new post-racial nation. This will be an evening of short films and discussion hosted by the anti-racist group Being John Brown. Themes will include everything from how to call out your local racist to hip hop, hair, the white power movement, baby dolls, what solidarity can look like, blaxploitation, and of course, the resulting racial tension headaches! BEING JOHN BROWN is a group of activists committed to challenging and actively confronting white supremacy, including lampooning the absurd notion of an extant "Post-Racial" America with actual fact. GDI Community Brainstorm

During the intermission for Minority Report, we had a brainstorm on
alternatives to police and law enforcement for solving community
problems. This is the list that came out of this discussion.

Possible Community Solutions to Challenging Behaviors

* Person assigned to be present with person having hard time
* Direct communication / dialog
* Don't call police / no punitive solutions
* Communicate with neighbors
* Mutual support
* Provide solutions / skills / education
* Crisis response team (Anarchist 911)
* Support positive youth culture / youth spaces
* Dialog with gangs / groups / neighbors
* Free enrichment activities - recreation, sports
* Mental health support
* Writing/art programs
* Free skools / sharing skills & education
* Communities of parents, groups, youth

Now this is just a brainstorm of course, and still all just talk. But
we have the opportunity to create in our lives through our actions and
projects the kind of world we want to see.
