Santa Cruz Guerilla Drive-In presents:

KONTROLL
http://www.shanesevo.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=2616&g2_serialNumber=1
Friday February 19th 8 pm
at Subrosa: 703 Pacific Avenue, across from the Saturn Café (Indoors unless, somehow, the weather is nice enough to be outside!)

In the perpetual night of the underground subway system, a motley crew of ragtag ticket "kontrollers" patrol the trains to check that no one rides for free. Indifferent or belligerent passengers, a mysterious love interest, a regime set on competition, and a sinister serial killer. Eerie, haunting, and bleakly comic.

[guerilla-drive-in] Being John Brown & Guerilla Drive In Present "Post Racial Short Film Festival" This Friday Feb. 12

Po s t - R a c i a l

Short Film Festival

FRIDAY FEBRUARY 12th at 8:00 pm

SubRosa infoshop, 703 Pacific Ave Downtown Santa Cruz

Now that we're all post-racial and shit, let's bust out the bubbly and celebrate!!! It's been a year since racism ended in America and it's time to take stock of our history and take a deeper look at our shiny new post-racial nation. This will be an evening of short films and discussion hosted by the anti-racist group Being John Brown.

Themes will include everything from how to call out your local racist to hip hop, hair, the white power movement, baby dolls, what solidarity can look like, blaxploitation, and of course, the resulting racial tension headaches!

BEING JOHN BROWN is a group of activists committed to challenging and actively confronting white supremacy, including lampooning the absurd notion of an extant "Post-Racial" America with actual fact.

SANTA CRUZ GUERILLA DRIVE-IN is an outdoor movie theater under the stars that springs up in the fields and industrial wastelands. But tonight it's gonna be indoors. Beyond showing great movies and bringing a broad community together, part of our mission is helping reclaim public space and transforming our urban environment: www.guerilladrivein.org

BRING pillows, blankets, and snacks to share. Donations are greatly appreciated and directly support Guerilla Drive In. (And really, you should totally toss your couch change their way. I mean, come on, if you had paid ten bucks a pop for every GDI movie you've seen, that'd be at least, say, ten bucks. Minimum. Flip a bill in that sexy little mason jar, pal. All the cool kids are doing it.)

BREAKING NEWS, updated summer schedule, discussion,  do-it-yourself, email list, the works at

GDI Community Brainstorm

During the intermission for Minority Report, we had a brainstorm on
alternatives to police and law enforcement for solving community
problems. This is the list that came out of this discussion.

Possible Community Solutions to Challenging Behaviors

* Person assigned to be present with person having hard time
* Direct communication / dialog
* Don't call police / no punitive solutions
* Communicate with neighbors
* Mutual support
* Provide solutions / skills / education
* Crisis response team (Anarchist 911)
* Support positive youth culture / youth spaces
* Dialog with gangs / groups / neighbors
* Free enrichment activities - recreation, sports
* Mental health support
* Writing/art programs
* Free skools / sharing skills & education
* Communities of parents, groups, youth

Now this is just a brainstorm of course, and still all just talk. But
we have the opportunity to create in our lives through our actions and
projects the kind of world we want to see.

Love,
Guerilla Drive-In
